Coeliac Screen
Coeliac Screen
tTG-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) is the primary blood marker used to test for coeliac disease. A positive result supports a diagnosis of coeliac disease, but further testing and clinical consultation is always needed to confirm the diagnosis. If your total IgA is low, this is detected when testing tTG-IgA and the laboratory will automatically add DGP-IgG (anti-deamidated gliadin peptide IgG) testing as well. There is no extra charge for this. If your total IgA level is found to be very low, the tTG-IgA test becomes unreliable and so DGP-IgG will be tested instead of tTG-IgA. DGP-IgG can also be ordered as a seperate test, independant of tTG-IgA. Please note it is vital to continue eating gluten (not excluding gluten-containing foods) leading up to getting your coeliac blood test. Reducing or excluding gluten prior to doing the blood test can cause falsely negative results.
