Fertility Semen Analysis

A semen analysis is used to assess fertility and includes measurement of:
•    Sperm count 
•    Motility (movement) 
•    Volume 

Collection Instructions (Important):
Abstinence Period
•    2–5 days prior to collection Collection Method
•    Collection must be by masturbation only 
•    Do not use condoms 
•    Use a sterile container (provided by the collection room) 
•    Ensure the entire sample is collected 
Timeframe
•    Sample must reach the laboratory within 30–60 minutes 
•    Keep sample at body temperature during transport (e.g. close to the body) 

Collection & Drop-Off Locations:
No onsite collection available
Samples can be dropped off at:
•    Tauranga – Cameron Road (before 4:30pm) 
•    Rotorua Hospital Site (before 4:00pm) 
•    Taupō Hospital Site (appointment only) 
•    Hamilton (before 4:00pm) 
•    Whakatāne Hospital Site (before 4:00pm) 

Turnaround Time:
•    Results available within 1 working day 

Limitations / Important Notes:
•    A single test may not be definitive 
•    Results may be affected by illness, stress, or medications 
•    Processing is not available on weekends or public holidays
