Glucose

Glucose is the body's main source of energy. Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas that is needed to enable glucose in the blood to be taken up by the body's cells for energy production or storage. The level of glucose in your blood goes up and down depending on when and what you last ate or drank.  Diabetes occurs when the pancreas either does not produce enough insulin or the body is unable to respond to the insulin it produces, with either case resulting in raised blood glucose.
