Homocysteine

Homocysteine is an amino acid in the body. The test is often used to diagnose vitamin B, or folic acid deficiency. These vitamins break down homocysteine. Therefore, if you don’t have enough of them, homocysteine level will increase.

People with elevated homocysteine may have a higher risk for cardiovascular disease as it can damage the inside of your arteries and increase your risk of forming blood clots.
