Bundle Contains
- Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
- Hepatitis B Antigen
- Syphilis
- Chlamydia
- Gonorrhoea
- Trichomonas
Pathlab bundle HIV, HBsAg, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhoea, and trichomonas in a single bundle because together they represent the major sexually transmitted infections seen in NZ, covering both blood‑borne pathogens and common genital infections; they share overlapping risk factors, are routinely screened together in clinical practice, can be processed efficiently on the same high‑throughput immunoassay and PCR platforms, and provide a far more complete and clinically meaningful assessment than testing any single organism in isolation.
Please note a Pathlab microbiologist may contact you in the event of your result requiring further clarification.
The HIV blood test detects antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV-2 as well as HIV p24 antigen. https://pathologytestsexplained.org.au/ptests.php?q=HIV+serology
Hepatitis B Antigen, also known as Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). This test is used to screen for acute or chronic hepatitis B. https://pathologytestsexplained.org.au/ptests-pro.php?q=Hepatitis+B
The Syphilis test detects antibodies to the bacterium that causes syphilis. Pathlab uses a treponemal antibody screening test (CLIA), sometimes followed by TPHA (also treponemal) and RPR (nontreponemal) tests depending on the screening test result. https://pathologytestsexplained.org.au/ptests.php?q=Syphilis
Chlamydia testing detects the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis using a highly sensitive PCR method to identify current infection and guide timely treatment.
Gonorrhoea testing uses sensitive PCR techniques to detect Neisseria gonorrhoeae and confirm current infection so appropriate treatment can be arranged
Trichomonas testing uses sensitive PCR techniques to detect Trichomonas vaginalis and confirm active infection for appropriate follow‑up and treatment.
