Thyroid Antibody (anti-TPO)

Anti-TPO is an autoantibody, an antibody made to target substances formed by a person's own body. Anti-TPO targets an enzyme, thyroid peroxidase, that is present in the thyroid gland and is important for the production of thyroid hormone. Testing for the presence of anti-TPO in the blood is useful when investigating suspected autoimmune thyroid disease, particularly Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
